Info DEU
Info ENG
Originally hailing from the Northern Rivers but raised in Brisbane, Asha Jefferies is best known her sombre, melancholic pop songs. Her previous EP ‘The Pinnacle’ was a coming of age for the artist and songwriter; a culmination of soft glowing idiosyncratic sounds and classic folk arrangements, featuring single ‘Crybaby’ which was added to rotation across triple J, double J and triple J Unearthed. Her next single ‘Tank Tops’ was also added to full rotation on triple j and became one of 2022’s most celebrated local tracks and a queer anthem, with the song exploring self-discovery, finding new love and having everyone wishing they could be “talking to George”.
Malou grew up in the countryside in Germany, in a house with a garden and lots of instruments, three siblings and “very cool” parents, as the 25-year-old explains. These two free spirits instilled a love of (live) music and traveling in the former school band singer from an early age. Despite studying social work in Cologne, Malou always knew: music, that's it! After a trip to Spain, she applied for The Voice of Germany - a show she had already watched on television as a child.
In the show's final, she performed ‘Glacier Rivers’, her debut single, which she co-wrote. In the song, she addresses her coming out and sends a clear message against homophobia and queerphobia - a message that the artist herself would have liked to have seen on television as a teenager.
In the show, Malou Lovis not only impressed her coaches Bill and Tom Kaulitz, but also The Voice audience with her unagitated but open-minded and extremely likeable manner and her warm, soulful voice - and won the title!
After her victory on The Voice of Germany, the singer and songwriter made TV and live appearances in front of large audiences, such as at the New Year's Eve celebrations at the Brandenburg Gate (in front of 65,000 people) and on “Schlag den Star”. A contract with the Berlin label Embassy of Music, songwriting sessions with musicians who are now her colleagues and many new encounters later, Malou is ready to take off with new, expressive music!
Before Malou embarks on her first own club tour in September, she is making good on her promise and joining Tokio Hotel on their European tour as support act!"
